Our Story
Why Baby Philosophy?
When I was a new mom, I was overwhelmed and confused by all the baby advice coming my way from books, doctors and nurses, friends and family, and even nosy strangers! And I was not prepared for how often the advice was conflicting.
One friend told me I had to let my baby just cry it out, another told me not to let my baby cry. One book tells me to feed on a schedule, another says demand feeding is better. Breast vs. bottle, crib vs. co-sleeping, working vs. staying home—all very important decisions, and so it is no surprise that moms are very opinionated. Every mom thinks their way is best.
As I figured out what worked best for me, and for my baby, I found my own way. And I discovered that for the most part, each mom’s own way IS best--for her and her baby. You have to do some research, talk with your doctor, and ultimately follow your intuition. Raising babies is not a science, but it isn’t exactly an art, either. I finally realized that it is a philosophy, and that each mom has her own.
As I developed my own “baby philosophy,” I found myself shopping for products that are not easy to find in local stores. The baby superstores seem to assume that moms all have the same philosophy, and tend to offer run-of-the-mill products that we are all “supposed” to use. So I did some searching and shopping on the Internet to find what I really wanted.
Then friends began asking me about my cloth diapers and my baby slings. I began recommending my favorite baby and parenting books. And I thought, wouldn’t it be great to offer a website featuring all the products I love, for parents with a similar philosophy? And so my Baby Philosophy was born.
Who We Are
My name is Kristi, and I am the mom behind Baby Philosophy. I manage our business from home, here in Southern California, while raising my own two little ones.
I have a degree in English, I have taught middle school, and previously worked as an educational content developer. Now mothering has naturally led me to researching the best baby products and resources for my family’s lifestyle. I am thrilled to be launching a career sharing our Baby Philosophy with like-minded parents.
My incredibly supportive husband, Jamie, is the dad behind Baby Philosophy. When he’s not piloting a helicopter as a Naval Officer, he is working behind the scenes to execute the technical “details” of our business. Or in other words, while I do the creative stuff, he does the math. He’s also my in-house tech support. Until he deploys, of course.
Jimmy and Mary are our child labor force. Rest assured, their only labor is to do what babies and toddlers do. They have tested virtually every product Baby Philosophy carries. As their mom, I can assure you, they are very thorough
Baby Philosophy hopes our products bring you the quality and satisfaction we’ve enjoyed. From our family, to yours.
